What’s In a Name?

Times change and sometimes we find ourselves using words or phrases that have become outdated.  And that’s exactly what happened to one of our divisions that provides services to individuals with cognitive and developmental challenges.  Originally named the Developmental and Cognitive Disabilities Division, we made the decision that identifying individuals by their disabilities was not the way we think about those we serve and that our name no longer correctly reflected our approach.  So, a search for a new name began!  At first it seemed daunting, but I’m pleased to be able to announce that our new name is simple, straightforward, and not far from the original division name….Developmental and Cognitive Services.  We’re looking forward to rolling this out across the organization. I’m sure it will be quickly adopted and welcomed by everyone.
