Spreading Joy and Cheer: Four Years of Christmas Tree Deliveries to Riverside Community Care Homes

By BJ Adebolaji Adebayo, Assistant Site Supervisor at a Riverside Residence in Wakefield

Christmas Tree

For the past four years, I have had the privilege of volunteering to deliver Christmas trees to 11 Riverside Community Care homes north of Boston. The trees have been generously donated by Jim Lyons, the brother of a resident of one of these homes. This heartwarming tradition has brought immense joy not only to the residents of these homes but also to two individuals we serve, Tony and Jothan, who live at a Riverside residence in Reading.

Every year, Tony and Jothan eagerly anticipate this special opportunity to give back to their community. As they accompany me to deliver the Christmas trees, their faces light up with excitement and enthusiasm. This experience not only brings them joy but also provides a sense of purpose and fulfillment.

As they arrive at each home, they are greeted by residents filled with smiles and anticipation. The arrival of the Christmas tree is a highlight of their holiday season, and Tony, Jothan, and I are honored to be a part of it. Tony and Jothan take great pride in helping to unload and set up the trees, and they revel in the residents’ appreciation and gratitude.

This experience is a testament to the power of volunteering and giving back to the community. Not only does it bring joy to Tony and Jothan, but it also has a profound impact on the other residents. Tony and Jothan’s participation in the Christmas tree delivery tradition demonstrates the value of social contributions and community engagement.

As we reflect on four years of Christmas tree deliveries, we are filled with gratitude and appreciation for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. We look forward to continuing these traditions for years to come and to spreading joy and cheer to our community.
