Riverside is built on a foundation of partnership and respect, working hand-in-hand with individuals and families to support them on their unique pathways to success. Through our dedicated team of highly-trained professionals, we deliver care that encompasses a broad range of evidence-based services, ensuring each person we serve receives comprehensive support tailored to their specific needs. Our commitment to excellence drives us to develop creative solutions that empower people to achieve their personal goals, while our unwavering respect for diversity creates an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive.
As a mission-driven organization and employer of choice, we take pride in our exceptional staff members who bring both expertise and compassion to their work every day. Our team’s dedication to providing high-quality care is matched only by their genuine desire to make a positive impact in the lives of those we serve. We believe that by combining professional excellence with personal commitment, we create an environment where both our staff and the individuals we support can reach their fullest potential.

Our Future
In October 2024, Riverside charted an ambitious course for the years ahead with the approval of our 2025-2027 strategic plan, “Future Forward: Our Strategy for Innovation, Inclusion, and Growth.” This comprehensive roadmap emerged from the collaboration between our leadership team and the board of directors, reflecting our shared vision for advancing behavioral healthcare and human services.
The strategic plan builds upon our legacy of compassionate care while embracing innovation to meet tomorrow’s challenges. It outlines concrete steps to expand and enhance our service offerings, invest in our talented workforce, and amplify our advocacy efforts. By focusing on these key areas, we’re positioning Riverside to continue making a meaningful difference in our communities while upholding our core values of excellence, diversity, and innovation.
Our History
Scott M. Bock, Riverside’s late founder and longtime CEO, grew Riverside from an organization of just six people in 1982 to more than 1,700 employees today. The organization has grown through a series of thoughtful mergers and expansions that have strengthened our ability to serve communities.
Through strategic consolidations, including significant mergers with agencies like The Guidance Center, Eastern Middlesex Human Services, and Valley Adult Counseling Service, these separate entities gradually united under the Riverside banner.
Riverside Community Care was officially formed in 1990, and has continued to grow through mergers with Somerville Mental Health Association in 2012, Screening for Mental Health in 2018, and the Somerville Home in late 2018.
