Jury Duty Does Not Have To Be A Noble Sacrifice
The emotional toll experienced by individuals involved in court proceedings, particularly jurors, is often overlooked. Exposure to distressing details of cases, personal probing during jury selection, and the weight of decidingĀ a defendant’s fate can lead to trauma and stress. Jurors, unlike courtroom professionals, lack post-trial support and are unable to discuss their experiences until deliberation ends, hindering their ability to process this trauma.
MindWise Innovations, a service of Riverside Community Care, recently published a blog detailing methods of alleviating the negative impacts of exposure to potentially traumatic situations in the courtroom.
