New Life Skills Center in Milford
Milford, MA, September 7, 2016- Riverside Community Care, a behavioral healthcare and human services organization, is now accepting referrals for the new location of their Life Skills Center, which will open on September 26, 2016. The program will serve adolescents experiencing significant emotional difficulties and learning challenges in Milford and surrounding communities. Riverside also anticipates opening a small school at the site in the coming year.
The Riverside Life Skills Center is a supportive therapeutic program for adolescents who are experiencing mental health challenges or a psychiatric diagnosis and are having disruptions in their home, school, or community. Through a highly structured clinical environment involving therapeutic groups and activities, teens are able to identify and understand their behavior patterns and learn more effective ways of coping, gain insight into their mental health issues, improve their self-esteem, and increase social skills to integrate more effectively into their school and home communities. The program is funded by the Department of Mental Health and is a critical part of our continuum of services supporting youth and their families.
Doreen Shea, who has been the Program Director of our Needham-based Life Skills Center for 6 years, will be leading our new program in Milford. “We are thrilled to be able to work with the community to provide a service that can have a great impact on the lives of adolescents, and Doreen’s experience is exactly what we need to create another high quality program” shared Shannon Sorensen, Vice President of Child and Family Services at Riverside.
