A Baby Shower

In the heartwarming, ‘did you know department’, I was just out visiting our staff at  Riverside Early Head Start in Somerville.  They were telling me about the baby showers they hold for women who are pregnant and don’t have much or any support.  Many of these women are immigrants and it is very likely that they will have their child and not have anyone to celebrate the birth with them.  Our staff set up posters in the community in four languages to let everyone know they are there to mark this occasion.  And, they often end up providing Early Head Start services to these pregnant women or new moms.  They manage to offer helpful gifts as well (such as car seats and diapers) and tell me that the reaction is overwhelming.  What a great staff and what a caring and creative idea!
